Concerning: War is Peace
Dear Dr. Krauss:
Thank you for stepping up to the plate and taking a mighty swing on the issue of science and evidence.  As it turns out, your essay is quite timely.  I just posted a statement (October 22, 2009 saying that scientists are unprofessional.  No matter how far down the food chain you are, there is a doctor and a lawyer and a policeman and a fireman and a politician and a man of the cloth and if it comes to that a soldier who will take an interest in your problem.  But there are no such scientists.  A scientist will teach you if you ask politely (meaning if you swear to your own ignorance), but no scientist will do science for you.  He only does science for the anointed.

I have written a number of open letters, such as this, that I post on the web site.  A number of them have been to scientists.  These scientists have developed data that is intensely important and I try to take care not to offend them.  But I do go so far as to post my attempts at communication for all the world to see.  The issue I raise with them will some day become public, and then it is quite possible that public opinion will rise like the simoom of the desert.  (I saw a picture of one once.  It’s like a proper Florida thunder boomer but with sand and dust instead of rain.)  It is possible but not foreseeable.

You, however, have the monopoly on no relevant evidence, and you say science is guided by evidence.   So I feel free to revile you and persecute you and say all manner of evil against you.  To begin with, you know it’s not true that science proved the earth to be round and more than 6,000 years old.  The size of the earth was measured in ancient times, and I think if you review your Beowulf you will see that the dragon’s hoard was 10,000 years old.  We knew these things long before science appeared on the scene.

My mother once found a small dead mammal in the yard.  It had white fur and fit in a two-quart jar.  It was not a puppy or a kitten or an opossum or an otter.  I had never seen anything like it.  So I took it to the biology department at the nearest university.  The man I spoke with promised to show it to the mammal expert and call me.  When I received no call, I called them and was told the mammal expert did not know what it was either.  I said I would come around and collect it.  I was told that the mammal expert had thrown it out because he didn’t know what it was.

That is real life.  That is your objective reality.

I have made the most important discovery ever made by Homo sapiensHomo erectus was capable of tool use and I can make a strong case capable of language.  If he didn’t use fire he didn’t need it and neither did we.  This is as important as any of them.

I have it boiled down to ten minutes on a DVD.  Yes, there is ample evidence.  If you want a copy of the computer program I used, I would be happy to send it.  Go ahead.  Look at the DVD.  Disprove me if you can.  If you cannot, then tell the world.

I dare you.
